Green Mountain Power Tests Smart Grid Program, Aims to Improve Customer Satisfaction

TEMPE, Arizona (June 5, 2014) – Vermont utility company Green Mountain Power recently launched a pilot of its new smart grid program designed to allow customers to track their real-time power usage and control smart devices in their homes. Program participants received a smart plug, an internet gateway that connects to the their home’s smart meter, and an iPhone application developed by iFactor.

Using the iPhone application, participants can view their daily, hourly and real-time energy consumption and control power to devices connect to the smart plug. The pilot program, which includes a test group of 25 Green Mountain Power employees, educators, and customers, is expected to last two to three months. During the pilot, the company will assess and improve the program to ensure customer satisfaction. In addition to viewing energy usage and controlling smart plugs, the app is expected to allow customers even more control through web enabled devices such as smart thermostats when the program is launched statewide. A webinar with additional information on the pilot program is available on the iFactor website here.

This program is another addition to Green Mountain Power’s portfolio of customer solutions designed to improve customer satisfaction.
