iFactor Delivers System Improvements Map for ComEd Customers
Working in collaboration with utility communications software developer iFactor, ComEd recently launched a new map that displays planned and completed infrastructure improvements throughout ComEd’s service territory. The System Improvements Map is designed to publicly share information and demonstrate the scope of the work that is being done to improve the grid and continue to provide ComEd’s customers with reliable power.
ComEd’s System Improvements Map is powered by iFactor’s Storm Center product, which displays information from utility systems in a user-friendly, interactive map interface. The ability to share GIS information such as grid improvements with the public or other stakeholders such as public officials and regulators is now available as an option for iFactor Storm Center clients.
Within ComEd’s System Improvements Map, customers can view seven different improvement categories: smart switch installation, reliability improvements, storm improvements, lightning protection, mainline underground cable improvement, tree trimming, and neighborhood underground cable improvement. Clicking on an improvement category in the map legend causes the map to display shaded areas where improvements are planned or have been completed.
All of ComEd’s infrastructure improvements are designed to strengthen the grid and enable it to better withstand the kind of large-scale storms that have become more common in recent years.
ComEd is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation. Exelon is one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, with approximately 5.4 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population.
