KUBRA Braces for Tropical Storm Nate

The effects of Tropical Storm Nate began on Thursday, October 5, as it hit Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. According to CNN, the storm is expected to make landfall in the United States on Saturday or early Sunday as a Category 1 hurricane, which would make it the third hurricane in six weeks to hit the U.S. mainland.

The storm is expected to affect parts of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida as it moves through the United States. States of emergency have been declared for Louisiana and Florida, and officials are carefully monitoring the New Orleans drainage and levee systems, as well as making sure all debris has been removed from storm drains in Florida after Hurricane Irma.

KUBRA solutions deployed in affected areas during Hurricanes Harvey and Irma experienced an extremely high amount of use, with a combined 4.7 million map views and 1.5 million alerts sent. KUBRA is expecting a similar reaction as Nate makes landfall, and will continue to monitor our systems to ensure that our Storm Center outage maps remain up to the challenge of the expected increased traffic, as well as support all Notifi implementations in the area as they are used to send out critical information and outage updates.

As with all previous hurricanes, KUBRA has taken several proactive measures to prepare for the storm:

  • Checking server health including system log and applications logs
  • Verifying resources are available for any system that might see increased storm traffic
  • Coordinating 24/7 support plans for increased KUBRA resource availability

KUBRA will continue to support our clients through this storm season, and are prepared to assist the Gulf Coast over the weekend.
