Mississippi Storm Center Launch Puts Customers at Ease
On September 26, Mississippi Power announced the launch of their real-time outage map, powered by iFactor’s Storm Center product.
Mississippi Power joins sister companies Georgia Power and Gulf Power in implementing Storm Center.
Mississippi Power’s outage map is the first stage of an outage communications project planned to include text message alerts powered by iFactor’s Notifi® system and iFactor Mobile apps by the end of this year.
The launch of the map was covered by local ABC affiliate WTOK, who shared a demo of the map shown on a tablet and provided alternative means of contacting Mississippi Power for those without access to the internet or a mobile device.
To alleviate customer safety concerns about the map information, Mississippi Power’s outage map FAQ overview provides customers with a clear explanation of the information that is shared publicly and that which is kept private. For example, the FAQ page explains that customers can only receive specific information about an outage at their home or business by logging in to their account.
“To learn more about the status of your individual outage at your home or business, you can click the Check Outage Status button at the top of the Outage Map site or hover over the outage at your location and click on ‘Status’ in the pop-up box so you can log in to your account. In order to protect our customers, we do not provide outage status information at an individual account level without first ensuring that we are speaking with the account holder, and we do this via our login and registration process. If you have not previously accessed your account information online, setting up a profile and logging on is very simple and takes only a few minutes.”
By addressing common concerns that are raised when launching an outage map, such as map access and customer safety, Mississippi Power was able to get off on the right foot with customers and put their concerns to rest.
