First Utility Begins Publishing Outage Data for Partners using iFactor iShare Solution
TEMPE, Arizona (June 24, 2015) – iFactor recently launched the first implementation of its iShare™ Outage Data Publisher, a solution that allows utilities to easily publish outage information in a standard format for use by outside partners. Implemented for one of the largest investor-owned utilities in the country, the solution will provide outage data to regional partners, starting with a local emergency management group which plans to use the data within its own outage applications.
“The ability to provide outage information in a consistent manner is something we believe will benefit utilities, their partners and the community as a whole,” said Shazir Khan, CEO and President at iFactor.
“The ability to provide outage information in a consistent manner is something we believe will benefit utilities, their partners and the community as a whole,” said Shazir Khan, CEO and President at iFactor. “The solution not only allows utilities to securely share detailed outage information with local partners, but also allows them to leverage the same processes they use to populate outage maps created by iFactor, ensuring customers and partners see consistent information across applications.”
In May 2014 during the White House Energy Datapalooza event, iFactor announced its commitment to the development and use of a standard for publishing power outage and restoration information through its software solutions. At the same event, seven large utility companies announced their intent to join the White House-led Outage Data Initiative to publish outage data for use by community stakeholders.
The iShare solution was developed as part of iFactor’s ongoing work to support the initiative and its participating utilities. The iShare solution allows utilities to easily publish real-time outage information to partners using industry-standard protocols and formats. The solution leverages the iFactor EnergySuite platform, allowing utilities to control the level of detail made available to users and to ensure consistency across communications. Data shared through the solution is expected to be used by trusted partners such as first responders, emergency operations, and other public stakeholders to enhance decision making and situation awareness during times of crisis.
