KUBRA Prepares Outage Communications Systems for Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey is quickly approaching Texas and Louisiana, and is expected to hit landfall late on August 25, or early August 26, according to the National Hurricane Center. The Hurricane is predicted to strengthen to a Category 3, and will heavily impact South Texas.

KUBRA has many clients located in the region who will be affected, and we are constantly monitoring our Storm Centerā„¢ outage maps deployed in these states to ensure that they behave reliably and continue providing vital information to the millions of people who rely on our maps.

Proactive outage communications via SMS text and voice are also extremely important during a storm. To support these communications, we will continue to monitor our alerts and preference management system, NotifiĀ®, which is instrumental in alerting customers of important announcements during the storm.

To prepare for the hurricane, we are taking several steps to keep our systems ready for the anticipated influx of traffic. Measures we are taking include:

  • Checking server health including system log and applications logs
  • Verifying resources are available for any system that might see increased storm traffic
  • Coordinating 24/7 support plans for increased KUBRA resource availability

Our thoughts are with Texas and Louisiana, and we will continue monitoring the situation and do our part to help the citizens there.
