White Paper Examines Outage Map Performance During Hurricane Season 2017
When a storm hits, how do utilities respond to keep their customers informed and safe? This was a question that many utilities had to answer this year, as Hurricane Season 2017 caused catastrophic and widespread damage, knocking power out throughout the United States.
For many utilities, outage maps were instrumental in keeping customers, stakeholders, and the media informed before, during, and after major storms and hurricanes. As utilities reflect back on the 2017 storm season, it’s important to look at how outage maps were used most effectively, and how they can be used in future seasons. It’s also critical to examine storm patterns and damages, to better forecast storm behaviors and corresponding utility responses for the 2018 storm season.
