SMECO Honored as CS Week Expanding Excellence Award Finalist for Customer Portal Developed with iFactor
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) was selected as a finalist for a 2016 Expanding Excellence Award for Best Mobility Implementation. The award was announced April 27 during the CS Week Conference held in Phoenix, AZ and honors the Utility’s work on its single sign-on customer portal project.
Completed in December 2015, SMECO’s customer portal provides a consolidated interface for SMECO customer-members to access information, pay bills and manage account and contact information. Customer communication provider iFactor — recently acquired by KUBRA — provided the portal’s preference center, which allows customer-members to manage alert subscriptions, as well as the updated outage map.
While the goal of the project was to give customer-members a single place to sign in to access SMECO account information and services, the new portal is expected to increase enrollment in e-billing, enhance the overall customer experience, and improve customer service metrics.
The CS Week Expanding Excellence Awards program is designed to recognize and salute excellence and honor outstanding contributions and innovations in utility customer service. The Best Mobility Implementation category recognizes utility companies that have developed an innovative approach to improving customer service by applying mobility to meet customer needs.
